A second Legion Basilisk for the IVth Legion

Iron Warriors Basilisk

Reinforcements for the 31st Grand Company's Gun Line.

The latest addition to the Iron Warriors' growing artillery is a second Basilisk.  They take a surprising amount of time to paint, but that is probably because I don't usually paint the interior of vehicles.

More as an aide memoire for myself than anything, this is how I painted the metal:

  1. Spray with Leadbelcher spray
  2. Heavy all over wash with a 1:1 mix of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil
  3. Drybrush (Large) with Leadbelcher
  4. A lighter all-over wash with a 1:1 mix of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil, avoiding pooling
  5. Drybrush (Large) with Ironbreaker
  6. Use a small drybrush to stipple on ironbreaker in patches
  7. Sponge on a 4:1 mix of Abaddon Black and Leadbelcher to represent corrosion
  8. Apply another light all-over wash with a 1:1 mix of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil, avoiding pooling
  9. Drybrush as necessary with Ironbreaker and a small brush
  10. Apply a recess shade of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil with a 00 brush

And this is how I painted the tracks:

  1. Paint the tracks Steel Legion Drab
  2. Drybrush with Leadbelcher tp pick out the raised tracks
  3. Apply a wash of 5:1 Lahmian Medium and Steel Legion Drab.  Dab away any that collects on the raised track sections.  You should still be able to see the Leadbelcher
  4. Apply Stirland Battlemire with a small drybrush.  Again, scrape away any that collects on the raised track sections so you can still to see the Leadbelcher.
  5. Use a small drybrush to dab Dryad Bark down the centre of the tracks. Again, scrape away any that collects on the raised track sections so you can still to see some of the Leadbelcher on the tracks
  6. Wash with Agrax Earthshade.
  7. Drybrush with Steel Legion Drab, focusing especially on the sides.
