Once more unto the breach: Reinforcements arrive in the shape of an Ultramarine breacher squad





Icons of the Heresy: an Ultramarine Breacher Squad

With the Ultramarines having failed in their valiant attempt to prevent the Iron Warriors establishing a beachhead forward of the Spear of Konor's Drop Pod Bay 2, reinforcements were called for.  A second detachment of Ultramarines were despatched to the site of the Iron Warriors' incursion, including a Breacher squad.

After three months of painting Zone Mortalis tiles, these were a joy to paint.  I have a feeling I will be painting some more.



I gave them traditional bolters and graviton guns, rather than the power swords that come with the shields, although for the sake of the narrative, I have assembled and primed a Praetorian squad armed with swords.  Given the rules for boarding shields, it is not obvious to me that a squad with a melee weapon will be that useful, but it will look different, and keeping to the narrative is important if you want to infuse your game with the ingredients to create an epic battle.

The bases are from Dark Art Miniatures, perfect for Zone Mortalis and different from the standard muddy battlefield.
